What to Expect When You Receive Your Crown

Treatment will typically take place over two appointments. At the first visit, Dr. Young will take x-rays to evaluate your tooth and its roots. Then he will reshape your tooth, removing any damaged material and making room for your restoration. Your tooth will be numb during this process, so you will not feel pain, only pressure. Finally, Dr. Young will make impressions, which he will use to craft your unique dental crown. You will leave the office with a temporary cap, but you will need to be careful when eating and brushing your teeth so that you do not damage this short-term restoration.

At your subsequent appointment, Dr. Young will place your permanent crown. He will again numb your tooth and, after checking the fit and color of your restoration, he will bond it in place. Following this second visit, you should enjoy full dental function.

Same-Day Crowns

Dr. Young is proud to offer same-day dental crowns to qualified patients. As the name suggests, these restorations can be placed in a single office visit. Rather than taking impressions of your tooth and sending them out to a lab for crown fabrication, Dr. Young will take digital scans of your tooth. A machine in our office will carve the crown from porcelain, and Dr. Young can attach it before you leave the office.
